Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested 6 suspected armed robbers who have reportedly been terrorizing residents of Atwima Boko and its surrounding neighborhoods.
Emmanuel Duah 27, Christopher Columbus 30, Yaw Adu Twum 27, Akwasi Appiah 24 and Francis Yeboah 28 were picked up by police after repeated reports of their activities by residents.
Police say the 6 have have all confessed to killing at least 4 victims in their robbery operations within the Atwima District alone, among them 2 cocoa farmers, an Assembly Member and one Kwadwo Prempeh, Site Manager of Benviko Small Scale Mining.
Upon a search, police recovered 2 single barreled guns and one pump-action gun, all unlicensed.
Interrogations further revealed that the suspects were also operating as contract killers but it is yet to be established who their clients are.
The Ashanti Regional Police Commander DCOP Kofi Boakye pledged his commitment to ensuring that the region becomes crime and violence-free in spite of new tactics adopted by these miscreants
