Abuja, NIGERIA: Reports coming in from our Lagos correspondent suggest that President Goodluck Jonathan’s government has reached a ceasefire agreement with the Islamist militant group Boko Haram. The ceasefire was reached after a meeting between the Nigerian and Cameroonian military top brass
and representatives of Boko Haram.
Details are scanty at this point but it can be confirmed that top on the list of conditions is the release of the 0ver 200 girls who were abducted from a school in Chibok. The Nigerian government has also reportedly agreed to release some detained Boko Haram members.
Analysts are already questioning if this is a backtrack from President Goodluck Jonathan’s original stance. President Jonathan had earlier stated that there would be no prisoner swap with the Islamist movement.
