Ghana Bans Samsung Galaxy Note 7 On Flights

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has banned the use of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on all airlines operating in Ghana.

A statement from the regulator of Ghana’s aviation sector said the ban takes effect Monday, September 26, 2016.

A lot of safety concerns have been raised about the new phones. Some customers have reported that the updated Note 7 phone, which Samsung began issuing last week after a global recall of the smartphones at the beginning of the month, have been losing power quickly, even when charging, and becoming unexpectedly hot while others are exploding.

Over 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 devices have been recalled due to reported cases of overheating or exploding while charging.

The GCAA has therefore stopped airline passengers and crew in possession of a Galaxy Note 7 from carrying the phone onboard a flight from Ghana, while passengers coming from other countries to Ghana cannot turn on the device or charge them on board an aircraft.

The GCAA has warned passengers from hiding the “device in any checked in baggage, even when turned off”.

“The directive shall form part of the safety briefing to passengers on board all airlines operating in Ghana and operating into and out of Ghana until otherwise directed by the Authority,” the statement added.
