Akatsi North Assembly Begins Celebration Of 4th Anniversary

The Akatsi North district assembly in the Volta region has commenced activities towards the celebration of the four years anniversary of its existence.

The district  was part of 5 others in the region and 41 new ones nationwide,  which were created by the late President John Mills under  Legislative Instrument (LI) 2161 of March, 2012.

Curved  out of the then Akatsi district with its capital at Ave-Dakpa, the Akatsi North assembly  was officially inaugurated on June 28, 2012.

As part of the activities to mark the week long celebration, the second ordinary meeting of the assembly for the year 2016 was held last Tuesday to take stock  of its operations over the period, so as to strategize do for future challenges and prospects.

The district chief executive, Mr. James Gunu in his sessional address, noted that the assembly has defy all odds in  bringing  monumental transformation to all sectors of the district in the last 4 years.

He said despite the initial challenges encountered, the infant assembly has  been able to deliver on its mandate of bringing governance to the doorstep of the people, while improving on their socio-economic well-being through various policy intervention programmes.

Mr. Gunu indicated that, the Akatsi North district has a lot to celebrate in its 4 years of existence as “the  Assembly has  transform its  challenges  into opportunities and delivered very well on the Central Government’s agenda at the district level by ensuring transparent and accountable local governance, building a resilient local economy and expanding infrastructure in the health, education and other sectors.”

The celebration which is on the theme, Akatsi North District-Four years of Transformation in the context of Decentralisation and Innovative Leadership,” according to the DCE, will be use to showcase the unique cultural diversity of the people and also promote tourism and other economic potentials of the district to the outside world, among others.

Other key  highlights of the celebration include, a grand durbar expected to be graced by the Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur  on Tuesday, June 28, as well as football match between the District and the Volta Regional chapter  of the Ghana Journalists Association on Sunday.
