Tafo Clashes: Peace Council Promises To Resolve Impasse

The Chairman of the National Peace Council Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante has disclosed that they are making giant strides in restoring peace in Old Tafo following violent clashes between irate youth and traditional authorities in the area.

He expressed optimism in peace being restored in the troubled community but said he is unable to give a definite date when this could be achieved.

“I do not and will be not able to give a date when total peace will prevail in Old Tafo but we have made good progress”, He disclosed.

According him, the Ashanti Regional Peace Council met with the feuding factions and underscored the need for both parties to allow peace to prevail in the area where there is currently an uneasy calm.

“The Regional peace council, met with the traditional authorities and would meet with the aggrieved youth today after which they can report to us”, he stated

Professor Emmanuel Asante said the fact both in separate instances accepted invitation by members of the peace council to meetings to begin process to smoke the peace pipe, is an indication they are willing for the return of peace in the area.

“I am sure the youth and the traditional authorities want to see Old Tafo in tartars because their anger took a better part of them in the heat of the violence”, he observed.

He called for synergy from various actors in dealing with the situation observing that it was paramount for all to work towards restoring calm in old Tafo.

Meanwhile, the National Chief Imam Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu arrived in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi on Friday to meet with Muslim leaders and traditional authorities as part of steps in resolving the issue.
