Nyantakyi Retained As WAFU Prez

Ghana FA president, Kwesi Nyantkyi, was on Tuesday January 12, 2016 retained as WAFU-B president.

Mr Nyantakyi won by a single vote beating Niger’s Djibrilla Hima Hamidou by 4-3 at the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) congress held in Ghana at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.

The Ghana FA boss will continue to become the chief of football in the West African sub-region for the 2016-2020 term.

Mr Nyantakyi became the interim WAFU-B president in 2011, when the then president, Amos Adamu, was suspended by FIFA.

When the union conducted its elections on 31 May 2011, Mr Nyantakyi was elected president for a two-year term.

He stood unopposed in the November 2013 election and was re-appointed for another two-year term as president.

Member countries of WAFU-B include Nigeria, Togo, Ghana, Benin, Niger, Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
