Eight (8) persons have been reported dead at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi as a result of food poisoning.

A number of the deceased persons who were pronounced dead on arrival at the facility, suffered severe diarrhea and vomiting but never attached seriousness to their conditions resulting in the deaths according to health personnel.

The incidents recorded between December 25 and 26 this year alone according to Public Health Advocate of KATH and Obstetrics Gynecologist Dr Ernest Kwarko, is alarming comparing the figures to that of last year.

“In 2014 the hospital admitted at least 18 cases of severe diarrhea as against 15 cases recorded between December 25th and 26th this year respectively with 5 deaths”, he revealed

Speaking to ghnewsnow Ashanti Regional Editor Isaac Bediako in exclusive interview  Dr Ernest Kwarko said, most of them ate food that had gone bad reasons why they died.

“They went out celebrating the yuletide and failed to eat in time even though they were hungry which led to them eating food that had been poorly preserved leading to the unfortunate deaths”, he indicated.

He added that most of the victims suffered stomach fluid because of drunkenness, collapsed and died because they had no food to eat when their systems required it.
