PPP’s Dr. Nduom Urges Ghanaian Doctors To Go Back To Work

Founder of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom is appealing to striking Ghanaian doctors to return to work and save thousands of lives as negotiations on better service conditions continue.Doctors have withdrawn out-patient services since Thursday, July 30 and have threatened to withdraw in-patient and emergency services after Friday, August 7 if government does not reach an agreement with them over their demands.

But on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, Dr Nduom described the whole impasse as unfortunate, condemning the two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for taking advantage of the situation to score political points.

“Instead of addressing the merits or demerits of the demands of the medical doctors, this public health problem has become another arena for senseless politics with NDC and NPP officials tripping over each other to score cheap political points,” Dr Nduom stated.

“Why walk over the needs of hundreds of thousands of sick people to gain political profit?” he wondered.

The two-time presidential candidate called on the doctors to return to the negotiation table and work as “many lives depend on you”.

“To all negotiators, I say, do not violate and tear apart the Single Spine’s guiding principles. Keep it intact. If that is thrown away, Ghana will not work.”

President Mahama has vowed not to revise the budget to meet the demands of the doctors as well as Article 71 office holders.
