Black Stars Arrive In Egypt Ahead Of AfCON Kickoff

The Ghanaian senior football team, the Black Stars of Ghana have touched down in Cairo, Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament which kicks off today, June 21.

The 23-man squad and their handlers will later travel to Ismailia where the team will be based for their group matches against Benin and Cameroon. The final Group F fixture will be played in Suez.

Ghana’s Ambassador to Egypt, Dr Winfred Nii Okai Hammond and the Tournament Local Organizing Committee met the team at the Cairo International Airport.
Ghana has been drawn in Group F with Benin, Cameroon and Guinea Bissau. The four-time winners will play their first game on Tuesday against Egypt.

At the pre-tournament stage, Ghana lost one and drew the other, scoring no goal in the process. Coach Kwesi Appiah however remains confident that his team will score and progress when tournament begins.

Ghana last won the AFCON in 1982. They reached the semi-finals stage in the last six editions
