Reggae superstar Gramps Morgan of Morgan’s Heritage arrived in Ghana yesterday to a rousing welcome from the Rastafari community and numerous fans. Gramps who has been named an ambassador for the Pan African Arts Festival ; also known as the Pan African Historical Theatre Project (PANAFEST) arrived in the capital Accra to hold discussions on the festival.

According to the President of the Rastafari Council, Ghana, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, the arrival ceremony was put together by the chief of Sowutuom.

“He has appointed a Rasta chief called Nii Mpese, so he is co-ordinating and the involvement of the Rastafari Movement in all this welcome for Gramps Morgan”, he told Ghnewsnow.

Before Gramps’ plane touched down at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, members of the Rastafari community had gathered and burst into chants of welcome when the deep-voiced singer emerged from Arrivals.

Nii Osabu, the chief of Sowutuom decorated Gramps with a garland made of Cerasee leaves, a sign of high regard reserved for royals and very important people. The crowd also showered him with white talc powder, a sign of appreciation in Ghana.

Also present at the airport to meet Gramps Morgan were the Ga Wulomo, the Chief Priest of the Ga people, and his Asafoatse (sub chiefs) as well as executives and members of the Rastafari Council.
