NPP Needs A Miracle To Win November Polls- Andrew Awuni

A Former Presidential Spokesperson in the erstwhile President John Agyekum Kufour government, Mr. Andrew Awuni has reiterated that it is only by miracle that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) will emerge victorious in the November 7 polls.

According to him, the popularity of the NPP keeps waning by the day creating rather a bleak future for the party ahead of the polls in view of certain unpopular decisions the leadership of the party have taken with the endorsement of its flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo-Addo.

Speaking on recent happenings within the party on Ultimate Fm’s political analysis programme the Fact File hosted by Julius-Caesar Anadem, Mr. Awuni lamented over the dwindling fortunes of the party indicating that he was saddened as a result.

The Former Presidential Spokesperson said the flagbrearer can reverse the trend through resolving the internal wrangling within the party with the influence he wields within the party if he so desires.

“If he had said gentlemen stop what is happening, everything would have ceased. But he does not want to effect change because when the first suspension came he issued a statement and asked all party supporters to respect the structures that took the decisions though very unpopular. That is an endorsement. No party should be in this state going into an election”, he intimated.

He stated that it would be extremely difficult for the party to wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) based on what he enumerated explaining that people are only succumbing grudgingly to the current leadership of the party after the unfortunate overthrow of Afoko, which has resulted in sheer apathy for people to come out and vote massively for the NPP.

“Nana Addo has made things rather difficult for himself and the party to win an election. I’m sure he [Akufo-Addo] regrets it,” Awuni insisted.

“It’s not that the people don’t want change but they are not sure of an NPP government vis a vis its current state,” Awuni asserted.

Since the suspension of Paul Afoko several elements within the party have expressed deep concerns on the development, somewhat confirming the supposed divisions in the party.
