Buipewura, Mahama Abdulai Jinapor II Bans Sub-Chief From Buipe
Buipewura, Mahama Abdulai Jinapor II, the paramount chief of the Buipe traditional area in the Northern region has reportedly banished one of his sub-chiefs for gross misconduct.
The Buipewura pronounced the punishment on Sorewura Alhaji S.S Gbankulso, chief of the Mankpan Traditional area, for allegedly challenging his authority.
Confirming the incident Alhaji Gbankulso said the Buipewura has directed residents of the community to terminate all forms of association with him and his family. He said they have also been directed not to engage in any social activity within the traditional area.
“I am told he has directed that nobody should talk to me and my family. We are also not allowed to interact with people in the area,” he said.
However, reacting to the claims, spokesperson for the Buipewura Dr. Ahmed Jinapor said even though the Sorewura has not been banned as he claims, he has become a nuisance to the community and the people have elected to cut ties with him.
“…The reality on the ground is that this gentleman is a nuisance to the community and the community is saying that we are ostracizing you from the community; we don’t want to have anything to do with you…that is different from banning him. And I don’t think there is anything wrong with that,” he said.
The feud between the two chiefs began when the Buipewura allegedly claimed ownership of a parcel of land believed to belong to the Makpan Traditional area.
Although the dispute was reported to the Gonja Traditional Council which set up a committee to investigate the matter and report to the council, the committee is yet to present its report.
