President John Mahama, has decided to reward the taxi driver, who knocked down two robbers and, thus, thwarted their broad daylight heist on Saturday January 9, 2016, with a house.
Vice President Amissah-Arthur made the announcement when he hosted the taxi driver, Nana Yaw, at the Flagstaff House this afternoon.Mr. Amissah-Arthur commended the driver for his patriotic and heroic act. Meanwhile Koala Supermarket has also promised Nana Yaw a new car.
Meanwhile, Koala has also promised to buy the driver a new car. His heroic deed has attracted applause from Ghanaians on social media. Former President Jerry Rawlings issued a statement on Saturday saying the cab driver deserved national laurels for his courage and selflessness.
Mr Rawlings commended him for knocking down the gun-wielding robbers, who attacked and robbed a lady near the Lands Commission.
The two shot and wounded the Koala supermarket sales girl, who was on her way to deposit a huge sum of money belonging to Koala in the bank. Upon seeing the two fleeing, the driver gave the two robbers a hot chase and knocked them down, as they made their getaway on a motorbike.
Despite their predicament, the two kept shooting until a soldier, who chanced upon the incident, intervened and made sure the two were arrested.
The robbery victim, who sustained gunshot wounds on her leg, is undergoing treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
Mr Rawlings said both the taxi driver and the soldier deserve laurels.“The boldness exhibited by the taxi driver was truly heroic and patriotic.
“At the risk of his own life, he confronted these armed men, damaged his taxi in the process and ensured they did not escape the law.
“We should all applaud his courage. The two men deserve national recognition for their bravery,” the former President said. Meanwhile the Ghana Police Service has arrested two workers of Koala who are believed to be accomplices in the botched heist.
