BREAKING : Fire Destroys Shops At Kumasi Central Market

Several shops at the Kumasi Central market in the Ashanti Region were gutted by fire on Wednesday night with items and wares running into several thousands of cedis completely burnt.

The cause of the fire is not immediately known but an eyewitness told ghnewsnow that it started around 8:30pm with the yam sellers section of the market being the worst affected.

Reports indicate that police in the region have been deployed to the area and three fire tenders have arrived at the site with personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the region making frantic efforts to put out the fire.

This is not the first time the market has been affected by fire. About five fire incidents have been recorded at the same market in recent past which destroyed property worth thousands of cedis. Police have also arrested four suspects for stealing items in the market.
