‘NPP Will Lose 2016 Elections With Nana – Attoh Quarshie

A founder-member of Ghana’s biggest opposition party, Joshua Attoh Quarshie, is charging the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo to step down for a more capable person to lead the party into the 2016 elections.

Mr Attoh Quarshie believes the NPP will lose the 2016 presidential polls if Nana Akufo-Addo represents the party as flagbearer at the polls.

“He [Akufo-Addo] should step down, with Nana Addo we have lost the battle already,” Mr Quarshie, a supporter of suspended chairman Paul Afoko said after a botched anti-Akufo-Addo press conference on Tuesday December 8, 2015 in Chorkor within the Ablekuma South constituency.

“If Nana Addo cannot stand and fight Mahama, he should step down and allow another one. We have got a lot of leaders in the party to take up the mantle,” he said.

The disgruntled NPP member condemned the disunity that has engulfed the party and wondered why some key leaders of the NPP have mounted a strong opposition against Mr Afoko’s tenure as national chairperson.

“Did they allow Afoko to be in office? They vandalised the place and fought the people there. What are they doing? Did they do the same thing to Peter Ala Adjetey and others, why Afoko?” he questioned.

“I cannot hold my mouth,” he said, insisting that Mr Akufo-Addo is the brain behind the recent chaos in the party.

“If you read animal farm and about communism you will know their tactics, he is the one behind the thing and always runs from bad events,” Mr Attoh Quarshie told journalists after angry constituency executives vandalised the venue of the botched press conference.

Meanwhile, Communications Director of the NPP, Nana Akomea, has asked the constituency executives to remain calm as Mr Afoko himself is seeking redress in the law courts.

Mr Akomea denied knowing Mr Attoh Quarshie. “I have never heard of him,” said on Joy FM Tuesday.

He entreated the constituency executives not to be provoked by any of such events.

“Mr Afoko himself has gone to court so what is the usefulness for people organising these [press conferences] because the matter is in court. Let me also ask party officers to show restraint in these matters”.
