120 Killed In Road Accidents In Ashanti Region Between First And Third Quarter Of 2015

About 120 persons have been killed in road accidents between first to third quarters of this year alone in the Ashanti Region according latest statistics from the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC).

Out of the number indicated, 39 reported deaths were recorded within the third quarter with a total of 264 case involving 337 private vehicles, 118 commercial vehicles, 167 commercial and 52 motorbikes.

The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the NRSC has described the latest figures as alarming but believes the department has chalked a lot of successes compared to figures within the same period last year.

Ashanti regional Director of National Road Safety Commission Samuel Asiamah said it was heartwarming the NRSC recorded less figures but there is the need for concerted efforts in further reducing the number of causalities.

“We must not be complacent because the figures are seeing a reduction. We have to put in more efforts in order to record a further decline”, he disclosed.

According to him, attitudinal change on part of drivers, commuters and pedestrians the Commission is likely to achieve its target should road accidents cases figure remains same.

“Residents are beginning to accept campaigns from the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA), the police and NRSC and this will play to our advantage in achieving our set target of the year”, he stated.

He however appealed to drivers to abide by road signs to reduce the carnage on the roads within the region especially as yuletide approaches.
