NPP Threatens legal Action Against Independent Candidates Using Their Logo

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has threatened to issue legal action against any party member who dares to ride on the party’s logo, colours and the flagbearer’s image for their individual campaigns in 2016.

According to the Ashanti Regional Secretary of NPP Samuel Pyne, the party executives will not tolerate this behaviour in anyway.

Mr. Pyne said it is an offence for any member desiring to go solo to use materials that bear the party’s name for his/her personal gains.

He gave this warning in reference to the trouble looming in the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency of the party involving parliamentary aspirant Dr. Ernest Opoku who wants to go independent.

Sam Pyne also alleged some members including Dr. Opoku have been spotted using the party’s colours for their banners and flyers for campaign.

The Ashanti Regional NPP Scribe further revealed that Dr. Opoku ceases to be a member of the party, per his decision to go independent.

‘He is not a member of the party, I don’t know him, per the records documents of the constituency we have. He should desist from using the party’s colours and Nana Addo’s image. His populist tactics will not wash’.

We should be serious when we talk about politics. The party’s law stipulates that if you support an independent candidate, you are equally fired from the party.

‘There are some requirements that qualifies a person to contest parliamentary and presidential seats and these are that the person must be an active member, pay statutory dues, attend party gatherings, social events like funerals, fitness walks, clean-ups, meetings etc. But if you talk of Dr. Opoku, no such things have come from him, Sam Pyne remarked.

Meanwhile a resolute Dr. Opoku who is keen on wining the seat come 2016 explained that he was not rescinding his decision not to contest.

‘I have more than 50% of NPP’s support. I am winning the primaries and nobody can intimidate me, the people have thrown their weight behind me. ‘My colours are yellow, blue and gold. Anybody who believes in me and wants to see development in the constituency should support me. I have people who are working on the ground for me; most people have thrown their weight behind me.

I am not problematic in the constituency at all. I will unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Appiah Kubi who hasn’t done anything meaningful for the constituency for the past seven years. The constituency lacks infrastructural developments’, Dr Ernest Opoku stated.
