President John Dramani Mahama has lauded the growth of the Ghanaian Movie Industry and also acknowledged some actors and actresses as well as producers and directors.

The President, who was speaking on state-owned Uniiq FM’s Breakfast Drive Wednesday, addressed a number of issues including efforts being made by government to tackle labor agitations, unemployment, budget deficit and youth enterprise.

Speaking on the arts industry as Ghana joins the world to mark International Youth Day, the President noted that the Ghanaian Movie Industry was not doing badly, while acknowledging there is more room for improvement.

“I watch Ghanaian movies as well as some very good Nigerian movies. I like John Dumelo and Lil Win who will make you laugh so well just as Agya Koo and Kyeiwaa. The likes of Emelia Brobbey, Jackie Appiah and the rest are doing very well”.

He disclosed for instance that anytime he embarked on trips, the only movies shown on the flight are mostly Ghanaian and Nigerian movies.

“When we are travelling we only watch Ghanaian and Nigerian movies on the plane considering that you are travelling for about seven or eight hours so you need something to make you feel relaxed” he noted.

While acknowledging the exploits of actors and actresses such as John Dumelo, Jackie Appiah, comedian and actor Lil Wayne, Kyeiwaa, Emelia Brobbey amongst others, the President also acknowledged producer and director Shirley Frimpong-Manso for her works.

The President singled out Shirley’s ‘Perfect Picture’ movie as one that proved her exceptional qualities.
